What Spearkers Are Worth Getting??

Need some advice on speaker set ups. I heard that focal and mb quart are good brands but pretty pricey. Any one know any model number of mb quart or focal speakers that are worth buying? Or is there any other brand that is nice?? Also I am curious on what croos overs do?? Can some one give me some info. Thanks

I've had good results with Infinity Kappa and Reference speakers - nice clean highs with lots of headroom and defined lows. They're best matched with a good sub of course.

MB Quart are great speakers - but in terms of actually hearing the difference, I think you'd really have to listen to them side by side - anything is an improvement over stock. Polk makes great speakers too.

Put simply, the crossover allows only high frequencies to go to the tweeter and the lower frequencies to go to the woofer. Basically bass damages tweeters and woofers are generally not capable of high frequencies. Therefor e the crossover network enables the specific driver to deal with and produce only the frequencies it is good at.

Any Focal component speakers and any MB Quart component speakers are good. Others to consider are Dynaudio and Macrom (if you can get them). These are all high sound quality manufacturers. Of course there are many more but these are all top end European brands designed with European cars in mind. For a BMW you cannot go wrong with any of these brands.

what are the original factory speakers?

My E46 came with Philips speakers and my E30 came with nothing at all. Nothing at all was the preferable starting point. As I have said before, BMW should be ashamed of itsself having put such rubbish in cars of this calibre.

I would highly recommend Boston Acoustics. Pro Series 6.5 is what i have. Very very very nice

keep the hks if you've got em, if not, infinity reference, alpine, and all those brands you suggested are good. just find the best price.

Are they 4 inchers out back and the 5 & 1/4 components out front?

I would suggest Focal 130 V2 or DLS R5 or MBQuart RCE 213 if you don't want to add an amplifier. Otherwise there are better (and more expensive) models (within the same brands) but which require an amp to be really exploited at their maximum and here come many problem of installing the amp, the model etc...
