Weird Audio Question. Self Volume Increaser - BMW Forum

Similar to new cars when you increase speed the volume automatically increases to compensate excess sound form the engine.

Can i do this? Anyone know/try it so that it works with old cars. Any sort of modules. Anyone have any clue about it?

Pioneer and Premier aftermarket radios have what is called ASL....Automatic Sound Leveler. It raises and lowers the volume in relation to the speed of the car. On the highway its pretty cool, but in town driving it gets annoying to me...sound goes up, sound goes down at EVERY stop light.

I havent seen any aftermarket modules to do that with a factory radio, I dont think there would be any market for this. I am doubting there is.

I've heard of that... but only of cars that came with that already.

Wow, that sounds pretty kewl, except for the whole stoplight thing...I always turn up the vol. when I'm hitting the freeway though, maybe the real ones have some sort of disable button for city driving?

My Premier has 5 levels of how much it turns it up/down. The BMWs are built to ride so quiet, its pointless to have it. When I did use it, I had it on 1 or 2. I could see 4-5 working rather well for a convertible, but other than that, its annoying.

Some GM vehicles have a version called SCV...Speed Control Volume, it works pretty much in the same fashion as the Premiers, in that it has 3 steps and off.
