Hello,

Just purchased a 1998 528I (E39) that came with a Factory Cassett Deck. What I would like to do is Upgrade the Deck to a CD Player that will play MP3's as well. Not sure if the Deck I can get from the Local BMW dealership can do this. Has anyone ever installed a new CD Player that has MP3 tech inside it???

Thanks in advance

Michael

There are alot of people here that know more than me, but BMW makes a Business cd player that is in dash and it does not play mp3 or WMA, or you can get a cd changer in the trunk again though the factory type no mp3.

There are alot of after market stuff that you can get that will play mp3 and wma just look around the forum and you can find alot of info about what people like and think is a good brand. I went with a Clarion in dash cd player that will play mp3 and wma, plus it will display the ID3 tag showing the artist and title of song. It also has different color options and has a "mandarin" color that matches perfectly to the bmw amber.

just my 2 cents

Your best bet would be to add an oem CD changer. THat would be the easiest and cheapest solution. Your car should be pre-wired.

I went with the Clarion DXZ645MP it has the color options, plays mp3 and wma, and shows the id3 tags. ALthough I have heard good things about the 845 also it has the same basic features but also has a 128mb memory in the player that you can hold cds on. When I got mine they were on sale on crutchfield and there was only a $50 difference between the 645 and 845 on there.
