it really depends on what kind of sound you are after, the only advice i can give you is (1) dont listen to your friends, and (2) REALLY listen to the differences in sub performance. they arent as easy to tell as midrange, you really have to listen to them. both subs you listed are power hungry, if you dont have 500 watts (not peak, max, or anything else like that...RMS is the rating you need to look at), you are wasting your time and will be quieter than if you matched subs power handling to amp power.

I would tell you go with JL over MTX anyday because the sound is much cripser, will hit a wider range of notes, and will hit much deeper.
But like dabull said, they are both power hungry subs and you will need a big, preferably monoblock amp, to power them.
And be sure to listen to both of them before you make your decision, because we can give you all the advice in the world, but its gonna be in your car in the end and YOU need to like it =)!!!

His right...
One thing I ask my customers when they come in the store and tell me.."Man, my system is week I need more bass"
Always ask them.. well, what KIND of bass do you want.... Usuall response is "What do you mean?"
So, am gonn ask you the same question, what is your goal? DO you want a great sounding SYSTEM (not just subs) or a car rattleling, alarm setting all out BASS?

I want a great sounding system... I"m more into listening to music the way it was supposed to be heard, getting the full depth, rather than just BOOM BOOM BOOM... thanks for the reply.
