E36COMPACT is on a distinguished road
Stereo Problems

OK People,

First would like to say a great site, have used your advice a couple of times but this one has me stumped.

I have an E36 Compact P reg and in my own wisdom decided to install an E46 Steering Wheel with stereo controls/cruise control.

This is post on how to get the Stereo Remote working

Now this is the complicated bit, r u ready...!!! The four wires going into the original steering wheel are as follows, 2 for the airbag (red , White) 2 for the horn Blue, Brown.

My new wheel is connected and working fine (light-airbag & horn wise). I have connected the Blue to the Frame of the wheel and the brown to the airbag back plate (all ok so far), the red & white to the Airbag (still ok) now there are 4 wires coming from the steering wheel remote (white, red, Grey, blue) the red & blue are for the power. The grey & white are for the remote controls.

Now i have a Pioneer DEH-P75BT head unit which is installed fine and I have just fitted an autolead to the stereo so as I can use the steering wheel remote. THIS DOES NOT WORK. basicaly there is a red/white wire coming from the Autlead which is the command wire - i connected this to both the white and grey wire from the steering wheel (tried this individualy and at the same time) and nothing.

Am I missing something in between this connection or have I mis connected something.

PLEASE PLEASE help

I answered in the E36 forum, and moved from the FAQ forum to here. I believe this is the interface you need for your car: PAC SWI-PS Steering wheel control interface for Pioneer and Sony at Crutchfield.com
