I'm putting a couple subs in my M3 and I need some advice on sub and amp kinds and where to put them. Im plannin on puttin 2 12" subs in my trunk. One on each side on the sidewall of the trunk and make a custom box to put them in. I'm confused on what brand to buy tho. I've been lookin at Alpine R Types, Solo Barics and Rockford HX2 Powers. They each have their advantages and disadvantages. I have no idea what to look for in an amp, i never thought they meant that much but now everone is sayin the amp is more important than the subs. If you have any ideas where or what i should do for my stereo please post them. I also don't kno what kind of head unit to put in. Or if i should just put a 6 disk in the factory trunk spot? And how do i hook it up thru my stock amp? Any advice? Thanks-
Custom box for trunk, takes up area I think you were talking about, and does not inhibit spare removal. Designed for 2 10 inch subs, but only one is working. Im including a free amp that powered the subs, but it needs to be repaired. I do not know what it wrong with it, only that it powers up but does not output sound. Shop estimated $100 fix, but had no real idea. If you can get it working, it peaks around 800W. If you are interested at all, email me.

I'm not really lookin to buy a used system. This is one area that i'm not gonna slack in and get a pumpin system with nothing but the best. But thanks for the offer and i'll tell some friends about it for sure. Are the stock speakers good enough to keep? Or should i replace them wit Alpine 6X9's? What about the tweeters? if you are looking for nothing but the best , step away from the rockfords and the alpines!! the kickers are graet on the other hand , however they are not exactly a sound QUALITY install - they are just a LOUD speaker, if you want quality, go over to omething like a JL Audio 12w7, a 12" RE XXX, Crystal CMPX2, 12" IDMAX or something along the lines of those, i assure you that the quality would be excellent! Next thing - again if your talking about the best why woul dyou look at alpine 6x9? They are great - but by far, not the best - not to mention a 6x9 wont fit in your car without some mods. For these types of speakers, look into something like focal, dynaudio, image dynamics or maybe even mb quart... If you need more ideas of brands, i can help you out with some more, these are jus ta tiny bit of the great stuff out there....
if you have the money for this type of equipment - it's definately worth it.
That's exactly what i wanted somone to say. I haven't looked into stereo's much, so all i knew of was alpine and rockford and kicker. I don't know if I have the money tho. I work construction full time in the summer, but other than that i don't work. I don't wanna spend a shitload of money, but i'm willin to spend a decent amount. I want good clean bass more than anything else. Loudness doesn't mean anything to me, i want bass. Good bass tho, not shitty unclear stuff. What are the best brands for the money? If you could put together a system, for not a shitload of money, what would it be? Head unit, amp and speakers? Thanks

You might want to check out some Diamond Audio also. It is very good quailty but a bit pricy. I have one of their 10" subs and it is very nice and very happy with it. I believe Scarface will be able to give you more information on them I think he has some Diamond stuff also.
Ahh well i'm not working with a ton of money. But i'm willin to spend maybe 2 grand at most. Like i said i don't work until summer, so it's kinda hard to come up wit alot of money. I would rather spend around a grand, but i dont' think i can put somethin together for that. Anything from 1000 to 2000 can be done. Thanks
all ive had is jl audio and i love it...i have to 10 w6v2s and 1000/1 jl amp and it hits hard as hell and is really clear. this setup is pushing the limits of the 2 grand but its still a little under. i highly advize jl audio stuff. also you dont have to get a head unit. i would say get better subs and amp and just keep stock head unit
I don't know about 2 grand on the system. I wanna spend more than that, but see i can't really come up wit that much money. Bein 15 and not havin a job and havin to make payments monthly to the bank kinda takes alot of the money away from me. Ideally i would like to get one together for a grand. Is the stock head unit good enough to keep? How much are JL subs outa say a Crutchfield magazine and what do you think i could get them for from Ebay? I think that's where i'm gonna get most of myu shit is from ebay, even tho i run the chance of gettin fucked over. Is everyone against Alpine? My brother has Alpine R Types and i've been pretty impressed with the sound of them compared to all the other stereo's and subs around here. But I guess i live in Ghetto Minnesota so there isn't much to compare it to. Thanks
You COULD stick with the stock head unit, but i would highly recommend an aftermarket headunit, as the bass will be deeper and the other tones will also sound more "true".

i have stock hu and it hits hard as hell...it depends on what jl subs you get...you can get W0s for like $100 or W7 for like $500. it all depends on what you want and how much money you are willing to spend. also the more money you spend on getting the nicer subs the more money you will have to spend to get a better amp to power the more powerful subs. i bet you can get some good deals on ebay except there are no warranties
I'm willing to take the chances of ebay. Even if i have one of my subs go out right away, wit the money i saved usin ebay i can buy a replacement and still be the same or better off. I love that damn site. If you really think the head unit is good enough then i'll stick with it and spend my money on subs and amps. The problem is that my car doesn't have a CD player in it right now. The 6 disk was snatched outa the trunk before i got it, so I have to buy a 6 disk for the trunk or for the same money get a Head Unit. I don't know which i should do... I kinda like the Head unit idea better, just cause it's easier to access and has more sound options than the stock set up. What kinda JL subs would u recommend? Figurin i wanna spend around a grand for 2 subs and an amp. Thanks
Dont keep the factory HU. You cant fine tune the bass as you can with most aftermarkets, and you also wont have as much power going to your other speakers. An aftermarket HU will also send much cleaner signals to the speakers.

What kind of head unit would u recommend? I've been lookin mostly at Alpine again, mainly because that's what my brother had and i was impressed with it. So JL is the sub everyone is recommending? If not tell me different. What kinda JL subs too? the W7's? What's the max watt and ohm on the W7's? What kinda amp should I look at? Thanks
