i recently charged the battery on my 318i but on connecting the terminals the alarm sounds - i dont have the remote or the key to turn it off. the car was running fine before this without any alarm probs, can i shut it down by any other way ?
If its a factory alarm, you can lock/unlock the door manually with the key, if its aftermarket, your stuck, you will have to get the remote for whatever you have or unhook it completely.

Did you put that alarm in yourself? There should be a button or switch to turn the thing off. I wouldn't recommend taking the whole thing out if you can avoid it. Have it towed to a car audio place. They probably need to get in your car, but they can reprogram a new key fob for ya. I think it takes a few days though. Would cost maybe sixty bucks

If its factory its typically lock unlock in the lock cylinder of the door.
'Valet mode' If its aftermarket it can be done several different ways depending on the brand.
My experience shows about 80% of the aftermarket alarms are disabled w/o the keypad using the ignition key and the 'valet' button. Most of the sequences go as follows:
1. Enter vehicle
2. Insert ignition key and turn the key to the 'on' position (Just before the 'start' position)
3. Press and hold down valet button until red light stays 'on' (LED alarm indicator)
In some cases its a toggle switch which will require you to 'flip' the switch ONE time.
Viper and most DEI products require the use of the keypad to enter the vehicle in valet mode.
Hope this helps, any other questions I can help with PM me, as I don't normally watch this forum thread.
