im planning on buying a new head unit sometime soon, and with a new head unit, i figure you need new speakers. so my question is: which speakers should you buy(ex. door panels, kicker,rear) and what sizes are they on the
E36 bmw?

THe kick panel speakers are 5 1/4" and the rear shelf speakers are 4". The door panel speakers are tweeters so u dont really need to change them, i mean they will be fine, but one more thing, u dont have to change ur speakers if u are buying a new headunit and if they are totally fine, unless they are blown or you are not happy with the sound quality.

yeah my two back speakers are making crackling sounds. I faded the sound more towards the front ones, but id rather just replace all of them.

yeah the rear ones are really bad quality they are made of paper cones, cant believe BMW used some cheap shit like that, and i have some used KENwoods 4" speakers for sale if u want them they are used but they will do the job pretty nicely.
U will have to do some modifications and its really easy
a 7 year old kid can do it

thanks, but i already found someone whos gonna sell a set to me. How much of a difference did the new speakers make when you replaced them.

well they are only 4" so they sound like the speakers u have in other model cars that are installed in the front, so no bass but u dont hear the crackling sound its much better now. just install them u dont have to blast music anyways.
