Alright, I'm just gonna make it a little more simple. )
I was on crutchfield and it only has speakers for 2 locations ... the kick panel (I'm assuming those are the two speakers in the drivers and passenger side doors) and then some for the rear deck. Correct, me if I'm wrong. (its a 1998 328i).
Problem is I have side airbags on the drivers and passenger side doors. Is this gonna cause a problem if I remove the side panel to get to the speakers ... or is there an easier way?

Thanks a lot. I only saw 4" and 4T ... no 4S ... but the 4" ones are described as meant to increase the clarity and accuracy of your sound and are used for a variety of locations.

These are listed as 5 1/4" ... these wouldn't go in the door? They don't have any 3.5" speakers choices.

lol, no they don't have a 4s speaker size, but they should have plenty of 4ssssss, as in the plural.
As for rear speakers...they are there to let the passengers in the back hear the music better. In a true musical environment why would there be speakers behind you? I dislike rear speakers because they mess up my imaging in the front. Try turning the balance all the way forward for a few days. You'll see what I mean. Anyway, if you keep it like that then there's no need to replace the speakers back there.

Hahaha, wow, kinda missed that one. Thanks a lot. But what size goes in the door?

I really like JL audio, they have a set of three way components that I'm interested in (XR653-CS). It has a 1" tweet, 4" mid and 6.5" woofer. I'm not to worried about stuffing the 6.5" into the kickpanels, but I am worried that the 4" won't fit into the 3.5" opening. Has anyone been able to put a 4" into the door before?
Where's a good place to buy 3.5"s? Crutchfield doesn't have them. And I like crutchfield cause of all of the free accessories/installation manuals ... though they are a bit overpriced.
