does anyone have any good recomendations for a e36is speaker upgrade
1996. I dont have the HK. sound system, therefore i figure its time to
upgrade. Are there any speakers that have the exact fit??? and i guess i should
upgrade them all at once???

speaker sizes are fairly common and you shouldn't have a ftment problem. How much are you looking to spend though? the "best" speakers could cost you $1000, but without a good amp to drive them, it's a waste. Im assuming you still have the factory HU too.

Post up how much you want to spend and if you prefer component (seperate highs and mids) or coaxials (mids with tweeter mounted in center).

just for the speakers, hopefully no more than $350-400.

I am looking for a little more bass, other wise everything else is good.
NO i have an aftermarket Head Unit, however i plan to upgrade that in the future, too but for now the speakers.

So should i upgrade the amp too at the same time then??

i kept my factory amp becasue there are so many corssovers and i wouldnt be able to power the system from my headunit. There are 6 speakers in the front and 4 in the back. I replaced my rear speakers and had the original tweeters removed.now i have 8 speakers and it sounds great. Iam going to replace all of my front speakers except for the tweeters, becuase they usually dont go bad. If you are going to replace midrange, make sure you get the thinnest oine possible becuase there is little room between the door panel and the window.

I have infinity, and I have reccomended them to many people on this board, and I don't think I've heard a single complaint from anyone who has installed them.

The only problem is that you want more bass. The largest speaker in the car is 5.25, and it is no where near large enough to good bass. What I suggest is replacing your rear speakers with JL stealthboxes. They are 8inch subs that are designed to fit into the factory space for the rear speakers.

Overall, this is my suggestion to you:

5.25" and 3.5" Infinity coxials for the kick panel and door. You should have to pay around $150 for all four. You could go for components, but the infinity coax has a rotating tweeter that will allow you to aim your highs, and since its already in the door, I would consider the more expensive system a waste of money unless you are a serious audiophile. For the rear, I suggest picking up some stealth boxes. I don't know what they cost or where they are available, only that they exist. I would estimate $150-200.

Now, we have satisfied your need for better speakers and more bass. Although not needed yet, bypassing the factory amp and adding a 6 channel amp will help even more.
