So I replace my trunk light so when trunk is open at night I can actualy see something in there. There is a mysterious purple wire going to the ground on the trunk light. I unhooked it. Then no more sound. Hooked it back up, sound came back. I went back to take a look at it again and shorted something and blew a fuse, it was the dome light fuse, replaced it still no sound. Everything is back to how it was.

I've got a stock amp and alpine HU.

My guess is the previous owner had a serious system in there. I can also see cutouts for bigger speakers where the stock nokias are and some other strange wiring around here and there. some speaker some power, some unknown.

Any ideas? At this point I'm am about ready to take it to an audio shop and drop some new speakers in and have the HU power them rather than the factory amp. Perhaps and amp as well. This will put a delay in the tint I was gonna get... I may also just see if they can get it working again.

could you possibly take some pics of what all these wires are connected to?

The only thing I could think of right now is you grabbed a wire that was connected to the amp and fried the amp when you shorted the wire, but that doesn't make any sense if you had to replace the dome light fuse. The only other thing I can figure is the purple wire was a ground for something and it's not making contact like it was even though it's back in place.

It doesn't make a lot of sence.

My installer took a look at things, fuses, wires, connections, deck... and figured fried amp.

So $400 ish later I've got new infinity speakers all around and the amp has been bypassed...

I was never able to determine where all or any of the wires go. I think they have mostly been cut at both ends just to be out of the way for when they were pulling their previous system. I may pull the old (aftermarket) speaker wire sometime.

My car is the same way, wires going in all different places, etc...When I installed my first system in the car, I had to tuck old wires back and I ran all new wires...I am the 7th owner, so who knows whats been ran in the car!

The least they could have done was left them there and labled for us to make it easy....

I'm going to see what I can to to clean it up some by removing some of the old ones and leftover coils, wires and crap.
