Sony Explod

was checking out some car systems and it seems very popular he in australia that the sony's go in alot of cars. are the worth what they costs, or what are some better ones to go for. not socting the world.

sony IS NOT a good company in the mobile audio world. they indeed have cool stuff, but believe me, its not the way to go. if you go to a high end mobile audio store, they would tell you sony sucks and they wont have any sony products.

ive had a sony headunit once, it was one of those fold down screens. it worked perfectly until i believe the 11th month of use, the CD reader malfunctioned. everything else worked, its just you cant listen to any CDS. now why would a headunit all of a sudden do that? im a man that takes care of his stuff, in no way that i have abused the headunit. i replaced mine with an alpine, MUCH MUCH better

my friend pat had a sony headunit, exactly the same thing happened to him. (his happened first actually lol) his CD reader mechanism stopped working. he replaced his with a JVC

well i know for sure i wont down that path, i have some sony products around the house (big tv, discman, dvd etc) and they have been the best things ever. thought they would be a little better than that. thanks for the info

its mainly their car audio that sucks balls...everything else is usually pretty good from them...

Yea man, Sony car audio sucks....Their home stuff is good...They started getting bad around 99 or so..I keep 3 of their units on display just because our Sony rep bugs the shit out of us to...When someone wants the flashy colors and graphics, they pick out the Sony cdxm800...Too much flash for me. If you want something really high end that is affordable, I would go with an Eclipse head unit, Alpine or Pioneer...Eclipse offers a couple things that no one else does..

1)3 year warranty if installed by an authorized dealer

2)ESN(Electronic Security Network)-When you purchase the unit, you can program a cd of your choice into the unit, take the cd out and stow it somewhere at home where it can't get stolen, and if and when someone steals the radio, when it loses constant power, it locks up and that cd must be used to unlock the unit. That is why Eclipse doesn't believe in detachable faces.

3)If the unit is stolen within the first year of purchase, Eclipse will replace it with a BRAND NEW unit! Who the hell does that??? No one! What they do when it gets stolen, they have me fax your insurance card to them so they can contact the insurance company and let them know that they provide this service etc...I don't know of any other company that does all of this for you..Kinda like free insurance..They also play scratched cd's excellent compared to what I have owned in the past(Clarion, JVC, Pioneer,Sony,Kenwood)

yeah eclipes is a good choice, the only thing i dont like about them is the look of eclipes headunits.
