replace stock radio with.... - BMW Forum

Hello, i am new to this forum and have a few questions. I just bought an '96 bmw 520i(e39). It comes with a standard factory radio/cassete. I would like to replace this with one of the many (navi-tv-dvd-radio) bmw-combos i see advertised on the internet (ebay). Can i buy any set or do i have to look out for something ? Is my car pre-wired for a setup like this, or do i hav to put in all the wiring... any help or advice is welcome...thanx

not for sure on the nav stuff, maybe someone else will pipe in that has done it before. if you are going to keep the car for quite some time, i would look into the aftermarket world. pioneer makes an AVIC-N1 (or N2) that has good features and is reasonable, and will outperform any factory BMW option.

i understand there are loads of brands who make very good subsitute systems, but i would like to keep the stock look, and have the bmw-like screen, buttons and illumination...
