Remote Start, And Car Communication

For anyone wanting to put in a remote starter, or use the push button start on a 95 and newer, you need this http://www.caraudio-caralarms.com/555B.html. I was bored and looking things up.

But, I am still waiting on if I should buy a 1994 325i with 200,000 miles on it. I am just worried that its gonna be a problem car.

But, while I wait to decide to get it or not, can anyone tell me what "Communication" protocol these cars use? I know GM uses CAN, and I think ford does too, but what would this model year use, and is it possible to interface it into a car-puter setup? What would be cool would be to have a "Digital Cluster". But I would atleast want to tap into the warning systems, if possible. I could have the screen say door ajar, brake pads, check engine and spit out a code, etc.

Ohh, and also, does this car come with the double lock feature? and could anyone explain what that is, in detail, to me? -Josh

yes every of the e36 on bmws that i have encountered have the double locking feature, (im not totally sure of this however). what this means is taht even if a thief is able to break the window of the car and gain access to the interior release handle that the doors will not open. also along with the double locking feature this usually also triggers the starter kill as well, so the engine wont turn over no matter what.

as for the other questions i am not sure of. i do know however that on my alarm (compustar) that it does have relays for doors ajar, trunk, hood open, windows open etc. my car is a manual as well, so it also has some checks to make sure the car isn't in gear, the brake is on etc.
