Rear Deck E46

Hey guys, just did the rattle fix on my car today, and got to fiddling around with things. I removed the rear deck speakers and looked at em and stuff. I was amazed that such good sound output could come from the small speakers....

Anyhow, I am looking to replace them with a new set of speakers, and was kind of wondering what exactly could fit down there.

It appears that the basket may come out, but i couldnt get it out without possibly breaking it. If they have to stay, i am afraid speaker basket size will be limited.

I guess the question i am asking is, what should i put back there for a speaker set?

I like MB Quart, I know that 6.5" speakers will fit, but do i need some sort of install kit to fit them back there, like do i need to take it to an audio shop; or can i just do it myself.

Have been to crutchfield or sounddomain? both list the speaker size guides for your car.

Also, speaker installs are very simple. the DIY in sig explains how. the only thing different would be the trim removal, but it appears you know how to go about that already.

Crutchfield doesnt do fitment on 01 Bmw's, at least not the 325ci.... Soundomain did some fitment, but basically says i have to put every friggin speaker in the kick panels. I know thats not right... I have confirmed that 6.5s fit the rear shelf, but i guess the primary reason for posting is, can the rear baskets be removed and how deep can i go? I measured with the basket in, and it appears to be almost 3 inches deep.... I cannot find depth measurments on MB quart's site for the life of me...


Anyone got any ideas?

If I were you I'd just buy a pair and see if they fit--if you bought online the worst that'd hapen is you'd lose your shipping. My stock system only came with the holes in the rear deck, so I assume you have the HK.

From my experience with past systems I wouldn't recommend replacing the back speakers at all--they provide nothing but fill for the front-seat passengers and bass you get is usually bad (the trunks provide too large of a "box" for the small speakers).

Do you have people in the back seat very often? If not then you'd be better off spending the money on a sub--yank the speakers out and let the booming come through the holes.
