radio code

I just baught a 1996 M3 and it didn't come with the owners manual. I had to put a new battery in. After I did, the radio is asking for a code. Am I hosed? ghead Can I take it to the BMW dealer and get the code based on the VIN? (BTW, I did the search)

Go ahead and take it to a dealer, they should be able to do it, otherwise...spend all night trying to find out the code...LOL j/k

yes take it to the dealer, they look up the code based on the serial number on the back of your radio, not your VIN i dont think

There is one alternative, get an aftermarket HU (headunit) like pioneer or something

Thanks, I think Ill call and see how much $$$ to check the code -vs- cost of new head. Ive got a MP3 player in my supra. I guess it may be time to get one in the M3!.

I just pulled one out of my dash and the code was printed on a sticker right on the thing. It's worth a shot....
