hey guys
whats the best one (if there is one) that i can get for around 200 bucks which could be atleast a little helpful in the real world. i live in the midwest, central illinois.

i think your best bet is to get a used Escort Passport 8500 off of eBay.com. Theyre selling for less than $200 (used only) so you should check it out.

Which is betteR? thats the age old question that no one seems to agree on. Some say the v1 is better and some say the passport 8500 is better. Theyre both good.. pretty much equally.

This is probably old, but I have a Passport Escort 8500....it works really well....I like it.

When considering a radar detector...I read the online reviews and the Escort 8500 was one of the top detectors....

The other one I was considering was the Valentine One...but it was way more than I wanted to pay....$400 new

I got mine off Ebay for $235....retail is $300

But I want the newest Escort 8500 X50....but those run $340...so I dunno

I sell the X50 for $268 at my store. Not an offer for anyone, just letting you know if you can buy it in a store for that you should be able to find it online for that or better. Great detector!

I would save up for a used valentine 1. Mine has saved me many times. The bogie counter is handy after your brain learns the display and sounds. Very quickly, you can tell if it is a building alarm or a cop and now days if there are two cops, a shooter and a chaser. After the eighth save, I became a true believer. It has not failed me in the last four years. *crossing fingers*

Is there really any way to 'hide' the V-1 and still maintain effectiveness? It is just about the ugliest thing i've ever seen, and it riding up on the windshield would bug me to death. I know its the best and all that, but its just so damned ugly..... Any thoughts?

I want to be able to "have my cake and eat it too".

the radar detector cannot have any obstructions...meaning that it has to be away from tint and should be placed high on clear glass. So youre out of luck there.

If you have money, there are systems out there that are completely stealthy. The Escort SRX for instance is $1500 but includes a laser shifter as well.

I just bought an Escort Solo S2 cordless radar detector. Everything I've read about it says it's the top cordless model on the market. I paid $330 brand new. I'm heading from the DC area to Cape Cod this weekend and want to open up my new 325xi. I figure the $330 I spent on the detector will save me in speeding ticket fines and a subsequent auto insurance rate hike from those speeding tickets.

damn... i want one but they are illegal in Canada, shit.. I'd end up pulling next to a cop and he'd pull me over for having it and confinscate it.
