The only radar detector to own IMO, is an Escort. Many will argue Valentine One, but I think they are overpriced and certainly more than $200. Escort (once owned by Cincinati Microwave- the same company that once manufactured radar guns for various Police Departments across the country), gives the most bang for the buck...period HERE
All but a few radar detectors at even the fifty dollar price point will detect X, K, Ka, SuperWide, and Laser. The difference from a cheap one and the more expensive units is the ability to properly filter false alerts.
A fifty dollar radar detector may go off either when it detects a cop, an automated door at a shopping center, or a teenager nuking a buritto at a 7Eleven.
The Escorts do the same, save the automated doors and the teenager....
The V1 sells for $399.00..... very over priced for my tastes.
I compared bell/ passport/ escort/ k-40 (they now have a dash unit). I personally went with the K-40 (tested extremely well). There are some very good, non partial test available on line done by the same folks that test the new police equipment for effectiveness. I just did a search. Have fun!
i have the v1, and i wont trust anything else... it has saved me countless number of times... to think about it, it saved me 3 times yesterday, and thats in one day. when im driving on the highway, it gives me well over a 2 mile warning. I would reccomend the v1 only because of my personal experiances. if you want to get a cheap one, go ahead... but add the price of the first ticket, and you are well over the amount that the V! would cost
I want a stealth radar system, like, the ones you have the sensors mount in the bumper and in hidden placed in the front and back of the car. Dad's got one on his jag, it's awsome, I dont know it's effectiveness, he wont let me drive it anymore.
yah, that'd be so cool if the V1 had high preformance sensors you could wire up to the external of the car, and mount the disply somewhere inconspicuious, or mod your gauge pod with LED's to show the direction or somthing.
I know this might sound stupid... but has any one ever heard of that Paint that either relects or messes up radar guns?.... That was be a good idea... I believe it contains some type of chemical element that is the negetive of radar... I'm not sure.. any one know?
