I just went to a car audio place near my house to look at headunits. I saw a Sony headunit that was all black, and all the controls and what not are inside. So it is concealed. It was all black with two red buttons on the outside, so I thought it would go well with my car seeing it is red with a black interior. Just wondering if it is a decent headunit, I might run a 10" subwoofer or something later when I have $$.
I always like to tell people to REALLY listen to the quality of the radios and shop, listen, shop, listen, and listen some more. The newness wears off after a month or so, and you are stuck with the sound quality that it gives. I have had Sony in the past (and even sold it for a few years). The features usually keep up with the masses, and cosmetically, they are a good looking radio. After putting my Pioneer in my car, I wished I would have done it years ago.
Regardless of what radio you pick out, I cant stress enough to listen to it with about the same size speakers that is in your car and bring you a cd in. As a ex-store manager, I didn't mind if people brought their own music in as long as they kept it at a reasonable level. It makes the sell easier . Listen to 1-2 songs and listen to the same cd/song on EVERY cd player you listen to. You will find one you like.
The headunit purchase is probably more important than the speakers that you will inevitably purchase next.

The place I went to had both of those headunits. I hadn't heard of premier so I didn't know what brand it was, sounded cheap. Yeah I like the sony headunit, and those 2 other ones also. Thanks for the help!

Premier is Pioneer's professional series and you get a two year warranty from the factory as opposed to the standard one-year warranty Pioneer line. You usually get more/better features with the Premier line too. Alpine is good too, as long as you stay away from the cheapest one, and the next one up.

I love my Clarion. I like the Alpine, but I wanted one that matched the car fairly well. My Clarion sounds great and looks great int eh car(amber color matches perfect). The four that I keep hearing good things about are Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood, and Pioneer. Stick with a brand you know. I owned a Sony for years(I loved the button layout), but think that there are so much better sounding units out there and my Clarion just feels sturdier and built better than the sony ever did.
