Poor Sound from Standard BMW system

Hi,

Have just picked up a 320d Touring with the standard BMW Business CD and speakers. Sound quality is appauling - tinny and hardly any base even after adjusting the settings.

My question is whether it is the Head Unit or speakers that are largely responsible for this?

It is a company car so I am loathe to spend much money on upgrading the system but if there are fairly cheap alternatives by a speaker upgrade, i would appreciate any recomendations that you may have.

Its both. Replacing the factory speakers will make a tremendous difference, but to see the greatest change you would need to replace the HU and bypass/replace the factory amp. Replacing/Bypassing is a last resort though. You should be fine doing speakers and HU.

bypassing is pretty much nesseary if your gonna replace the speakers... because of all the seperate outputs.

One of the most immediate improvements felt by most is the addtion of bass. Infinity offers a BASSLINK that can be installed my merely accessing a few leads all found in the trunk. If it's merely sound quality not volume your unhappy with, this would be a good start. Then when you blow your other speakers from using your new toy, you can start replacing the oem speakers.
