If its anything like an LCD monitor for laptops, there is a little filament in there that goes bad. Or the transformer that drives the filament. I wouldnt have a clue on how to replace it. I replaced one in a laptop screen at one time, and I dont think I will do that ever again. It was a pain.

yep it never stops ...its an addiction i have to admit ...im always looking for a new project (albeit on limited funds)
i need
Radio module bm54.
Satnav computer either mk3 or mk4.
Aircon relocation panel.
Satnav loom.
Gps antenna
TV Tuner
seems i cant just have tv so i might as well go the full mile..
so hunting down the parts now
i'd like to keep my alpine HU
so im still thinking of a way to install ..
bluetooth doesnt want to work with aftermarket HU anyhow
while im waiting for the LCD im thinking of putting the old oem HU back in
so im back to square one
how do i hook it up to the amp with no rcas?
There are ways to hook up two headunits, but its tricky. It would be better to create RCAs off your factory unit if you cant get the BT to work, and you need it to work.

well, would you believe it the whistle returned!!!
so i noticed that when i removed the rca plugs from the amp on 2 channels the noise increased. if i hooked up only channels 1 and 2 it was better. as soon as 3 went in it got loud and when 4 went in the noise remained but reduced in volume. took the amp out removed the circuit board and had a look at the solder joints under a magnifying glass. lo and behold very obvious dry joints with evidence of previous soldering... yellow areas too.
so, i resoldered and hey presto , perfect!
now i just have to get the bluetooth to work.
im going to put the old HU back in and connect it to one speaker (and old one ive mounted under the steering column) if this works im thinking of somehow having both HUs as i dont want to give up the alpine.
still wanting to use the Alpine HU though
this is the loom as it should be connected to the oem hu
the phone pairs but there is no sound
connection is made but
no dial tone
no ring tone
no sound at all
it's something to do with pins 37 and 38 from the ULF?
where do they go with an AM HU in the absense of the oem plug A pins 3 and 8?
