Morons and stereos - BMW Forum

Ok so before I bought it someone brilliant placed an aftermarket stereo in my 318. First off the unit sucks. Second off the unit sucks. Third they threw away the magazine to the disc changer in the back. And a few other things. So I would like to one day re use the factory disc changer...my question is what is the next appropiate step? Get an old BMW factory radio off ebay? Save up for a Nakamichi? Or can other head units work with the factory changer? and how? if any knows of a DIY on this, please post the link.

They dont make any aftermarket headunits that run the factory changer. You will have to get a factory headunit. I wouldnt waste my money on 10 year old technology. Save your pennies for a new headunit and forget about the changer until time to sell the car, then maybe return to factory. Hope that helps...

I kinda figured that was the case. I guess i'll save up for a 7inch lcd or a nakamichi. What does every(any)one suggest.

Id say buy a new HU and get an ipod adapter or auxillury imput adapter. the cd changer I had in my '97 328i skipped over every bump. I have a pioneer now with an iPod hookup. sounds great and no skipping!

I agree on the Pioneer line. I have the (Pioneers pro line) Premier DEH-P8MP. It doesnt really match the dash but I would prefer function and sound quality more than aesthetics. The Nakamichi kinda does both rather well. Just more than I was looking to spend...
