MB Quart Reference vs. Infinity Reference (5.25" Components). I am trying to decide between these two. The MB's are more expensivce but are they much better?
Infinity has 1" tweeter. MB has 3/4".
Both use polypropolene cones w/a rubber surround. The Infinity uses a Silk tweeter. MB uses Titanium.
The Infinities are rated at 67 - 21k Hz. The MBs are 52 - 32k Hz.
The Inginity's sesitivity is 92. dB. The MBs are 85.9.
The Infinities need 2-75W RMS. Peak is 225W. The MBs need 40-100W RMS. Peak power is not listed.
So, the answer to which is better depends on your answers to these: Will you be using a powerful amp? How much can you afford to pay for one if you don't alreayd have one?
If you don't have amp already capable of playing at least 50W (or funds to buy one) I'd forgo the MBs. The Infinities would be much better suited to the power supply of an aftermarket HU. You could still put the MBs in, but they would take alot of power you don't have trying to play loud and you wouldn't hear them anywhere near their full potential. In fact you would be underpowering them, which is one of the quickest ways to kill a speaker.
That said, with the propper power supply, the MBs win w/ only one issue. The frequency range is far greater than the Infinity. The onty issue is they have smaller tweeters. Other than that, with the propper amp, the sensitivity doesnt matter and you're golden.

I agree with prez. I've heard a bunch of inf.s run off off HU and they sounded great. If you do plan on getting an amp, take advantage of the extra power by getting the MBs.
What is the difference between the e36 nokia speakers and infinity ref? Is there a big difference? I am thinking about getting some reference series to replace my nokias, if there really will be a difference.
Both the coax and the component use silk tweets. The Nokia tweet is so small I don't know what fraction to use. Around 1/8th of an inch. Infinities are 1".
And those are just the basics.

I've been thinking about getting some MB Quart's for the front.. I'm not sure if that component list is for 2 of each speaker or what...
I already have a tumult subwoofer, Cadence A7+HC 1.4Kw amp for sub, and a Cadence A4 for the speakers.
I probably need much more juice for my speakers, sell my A4 (a nice 300$ on ebay) and snag another amp with much more wattage. Take a look at these 2 amp's THD ratings. It's amazingly clean.
I think that I will be going with the 5000cs package within a week or two.
Am I going to be able to sell my old kick panels and tweets?
Also, where is the best place to sell them, my old sony HU and cd changer? ebay? should i sell HU and cd changerseperate, or together?
Start the bid at one cent. You get more bids and also pay less fees. Also, don't sell the product. Say what it is, what you did with it, if it works, garuntee it will work, what it needs, or doesnt, etc. Very simple.
And you'll get more than you expect.

The MBs are better than the infinitys by some distance but only if you have enough clean power.
Best Buy are advertising Rockford Fosgate 201S amps for $134.99. This is a very good buy. It is only 2 channel but is very stable in a 2 ohm load. It will drive all 4 speakers easily and will deliver over 100 watts RMS per channel into 2 ohms. In addition if you decided on a sub some time it is quite a good sub amp.
I would not by the RF amp. RF is known for SPL, not SQ. As such, I have looked at 3 sources (best buy, crutchfield, and RF itself) and none listed THD or S/N. Never buy an amp for SQ without knowing these numbers.
