LCD placement in a sedan

hello, ive stalked these boards for some time and enjoyed the helpful atmosphere and opinions here.

i am trying to build a carputer and am having problems in trying to find an area to put the LCD.

i would like my lcd mount to be motorized(would be nice but not necessary) but most importantly is me being able to tuck it away somewhere so people wont be attracted to break the windows.

what i had in mind was that i would take out the cigarette lighter and the small ashtray/box and try to fit a LCD screen in there. What i would like to know is how deep does that area go?

another idea would be a slide out, fold up from under the arm rest ( i'll miss my cupholders) but then i need to know how wide the armrest is.

my car has the stock alphine cd53(i think) business stero, no nav no aftermarket HU.

Any advice/opinions is appreciated.

The space where the lighter goes and the one above it is pretty useless it's only about 2 inches deep I was wanting to do the same thing with a 7" monitor. I do have the monitor snugged in the little space with out taking any compartments out.

rather than a motorized you could possibly try a flip up/down monitor. The guys in audio can help you out better.

anyone know where i can find specs for the interior of a 3series? like width of the armrest, etc etc?

im so stumped on that and all the audio/video guys im calling say i need to bring in both the monitor and car for them to see if thats doable which ironically i cant do since im waiting for the OK that they can build this mount before i buy any of the carputer stuff.

The space between the shifter and the a/c controls I ran some wires under the ashtray and built a frame and just snugged the thing in there, it looks great everyone thinks the t.v was built in the car.
