Later Factory Radio Install in an E34???

I recently purchased an 89 525i. The tape deck is shot and the radio crackles. I was thinking of getting a factory cdplayer to replace it or a factory tape deck.
My question is: Is my radio compatible with E36 models or the Z3 models?

they are compatible, however you dont have the proper wire harness and i believe they dont make, you'd have to make your own.

If your good with electronics , even just a little bit , go to www.bmwe34.net and read the stereo wiring diagrams and then you canput pins on the end of your wires and connect up a new one the way you would normally

i was also going to do this until i found a new cd changer

I forgot all about the trust www.bmwe34.net site. It looks simple enough. It would be easier if i can find the factory plug for the rear of the newer radio.
