I installed a pioneer deh-4600mp with some 4in kenwoods in the rear.
Will it sound better if i bypass the factory amp? That's what i have been told, but i've searched and am unable to find out how to do it. Anyone know of a write-up that explains how to do it?

Re wire it all.... Simple process but a pain to do.
run wires from deck to speakers.
not deck to amp to speakers
may also want to replace front speakers... as the amp crosses it all over for you before sending it..

you could try to rewire it at the amp but that would be tricky....

Look around here there is more info about it.

If you can find a wiring diagram for the car and amp, you can simply cut the wires before and after and the amp and match them up with butt connectors. That way, you wont need to run any new wires.

some will be trickier than others as the front's have their own signal for each speaker from the amp. the rears get 2 signals from the stock amp.

tipicaly if you replace the speakers it would be best to bypass the stock amp in some form or anothe.

there was a wiring diagram for the e36 amps around here someplace...

Ok, so i have searched but it seems like no one has written anything up on how to do it. The only wiring diagram i have found is this...

But this dosen't really mean much to me.

I plan on just disconnecting the wires from the stock amp, cutting them free from the connector thing, then just match up the colors, is that what i am supposed to do? I don't want to screw it up.

Most people run fresh wires from the deck to leave the stock system intact just incase they want to put it back to stock to sell it...

the stock wiring will be a bit tricky but you have the right idea. there are seperate wires for each of the 6 speakers up front so that can make it a bit more tricky. and those wires were only meant to run what they were running so pushing more over them could be a problem if you put larger speakers and a higher powered deck in...

I am doing the exact same thing with a 1988 735i and am stuck in the same spot. I have run wires from the deck to the trunk where the amp is but don't know which wires to hook up... please let me know how you did it. I can't find any kind of a wiring diagram. Thanks.

shouldnt need to run wires to the trunk. you should be able to use the wires from the harness to pass signal to the trunk. if you ran wires you might as well just hook the speakers to them.
