As of now, I have an Alpine 9825 head unit, an infinity reference 1230 sub(with blaupunkt PA2100 amp(used just for sub)).
this weekend i am most likely getting infinity 5000cs (kicks and tweets)
as i have been told it will be before.... Will I be fine without anything such as an amp to support these speakers? Will the HU power these subs just fine?
Also, how am I going about hooking up these speakers? can i use the existing tan metal thing instead of the black one that comes with it?. Could someone tell me the steps to get the speakers to take them out and put the new ones in?
from what el prez. has told me he runs his off of his HU and he is fine, but he might have different components than you. Chances are your HU is just barely enough, so if you did get a small amp it would sound much better.
Your Alpine deck can power these no problem. You just need to bypass your oem amp. Following the diagram below will guide you through the following steps...
No wiring has to be done behind the deck, your good there.
However, you do need to do some rewiring at the oem amp location:
-The leads going INTO the oem amp (L: Pins 16,17 and R: Pins 14,15) are connected to the INPUTS on the supplied Infinity crossovers.
-Outs for mids and tweets on the Infinity crossover are interfaced with the outs for front woofers and tweeters coming out of the oem amp. Just make sure the leads at each speaker location match those with the outputs on the crossovers.
-BTW, you probably have an adjustable HPF on your Alpine HU, set to between 60-80Hz depending on what you listen to.
You have a centrally mounted amp in the trunk of your car. The above shows the wiring coming in and out of it. You are basically disconnecting some of the ins and outs on the oem (factory BMW) amp and reconnecting them to the Infinity Crossover. You are then using the Alpine HU to power the Infinity speakers and not the oem amp
i know where the amp is located. what is the process? is it plug n play for the speakers...but then by passing the oem amp after that for...better sound or enough power?
bypass process: could you tell me what connects to what, paint a picture with words to what it looks like? EX: this wire from here goes to the crossover, ect?
as for the amp and the wires... how do i access them? i know how to get to the amp, but should i full take out the amp? how do i get the wires out from the holes?
im not too sure about the output wires either. where are those and what numbers are they? also, will i be able to use my 3.5" speakers(below the 1inch tweeter)?
So as it stands the amp powers all the speakers in the car? My head unit doesnt power any of them? How many watts is this stock amp and where can I find the damn thing?? Thanks.

Stock amp in an e36 should be in your trunk. Watts...no idea. its on the left side wall of your trunk, just remove the carpeting by the rear left tail light.

Yup, that's exactly right. And not too much power there. Maybe 15-20watts RMS.
I wish I would have known that before I installed my headunit! How do I make the Alpine HU run the speakers instead of the amp? Would this be smart to do(it's a 200 watt HU) or should I just get another external amp to replace the stock one?
I ask too many questions, I should be a damn reporter .. hehe
