Infinity Basslink Install

I recently purchased an Infinity Basslink for my 2002 325i. I was figuring I would mount it in the trunk. However, I'm not sure what lurks beneath the area behind the spare tire well and in front of the rear seat wall. The last thing I want to do is create a problem because I screwed into the gas tank or some electronics.

My preference is to mount it vertically similar to the picture linked below. Go to the bottom of the page - Final Result. I would probably have mine facing straight forward instead of at an angle. My trunk is different, but this gives you a good idea of what I'm talking about.

Included with the installation material are four self taping screws, about 1 1/4 long. The two rear screws would go into a cover of some kind that is behind the spare tire well. I'm not sure what is under there. The front two screws would be in the tire well, so those should be fine.

So if you could tell me whether it's safe or not screw down the bracket in the left rear (away from back of car) corner of the trunk I would be most grateful.

Thanks Cisco Kid. Just out of curiosity, do you know what is underneath that cover? I was also thinking of hanging it from the rear deck on the passenger side. What do you think of that idea?

The mounting hardware may just fail as it was most likely not designed for that kind of use and then you go over a speed bump one day and you hear a THUD of your basslink falling...

i am considering mounting mine only with heavy professional grade velcro so i can get it out if i need the space. i have a 3 series convertible so space already at a premium.

enjoy, sounds like you have a 3 series and have played with the locations, assuming left (drivers) side in the back corner is your favorite. have you experimented with having the basslink horizontal, vertical, in other spots, etc.? an installer told me not to have it under the package shelf that the bass would be better in the front so it is not surrounded??? not sure what to make of that but i havent decided on a final spot for it yet. thanks!

Right now mine is laying horizontal in the left rear corner and is secured only by a tie-down wrapped around the front legs. It sounds decent but I tried standing it up and thought that it sounded better vertically.

I do have a 3 series (E46). If I screw it down to the floor I won't be able to get to the spare tire without unscrewing it, although I might be willing to live with that.

007Ben has a good point about the hanging mount. I was wondering how likely it would be to fall. The advantage of that location is that I could get to the spare tire and wasn't worried about what the screws were going into.

I paid for installation and the installer knows I will probably be coming back and asking for a different setup. Once I ask him to screw down the mounting brackets I don't think I can ask for another setup without paying extra.

One idea I had was to mount the Basslink vertically onto a carpeted wood base, then velcro the base to the carpet. However, it think it's possible the the whole thing could tip forward including the carpet under the base.

Still open to ideas.

Based on the various advice I was offered, I made my decision and the Basslink is screwed down to the floor. I decided to move it to the right rear corner because the wires are less likely to be affected by any cargo. Used 1 inch screws instead of the 1 1/4 inch ones that come in the box. Also, I angled it slightly so that the front faces the center of the trunk lid.

Seems secure and sounds great.
Definitely makes a big improvement, even with the stock speakers.

silverE39 - did you mount that to that plastic cover just below the liner in the trunk, or did you go through the plastic and into the metal below it? I'm trying to decide how to mount mine as well.
