I was under the impression that you could use a 8mm hex wrench to remove the screws that hold the 1998 328i head unit in. However I just read that the screws are 5 sided and only a special tool can remove them ... is this fact or fiction? I can not look right now because my car is currently in the shop.

havent heard anything about that before, i have a 95, and it used the 8mm hex key

i was suprised at how easy it is to get the head unit out, you shouldnt have too much trouble with that

it is a 5 sided design, but the 8mm works just as well.
