How Do I Know?

Hey hows it going everyone. Anyways just wanted to know how i can find out if i have the premium system or not. I heard its a pain to do a new setup if you have the infinity system or something. And does anyone know of a good site i can go to that will tell me what system i have in my car already and what the dimensions are for tall the speakers? I have a 97 328is. Help is very appreciated! thanks everyone!

When you bought the car, what were you told about the sound system? If they said "premium sound system", it's possible they were just playing it up. Premium means really good, high value, etc. It's a matter of opinion. So, you could say your sound system's "premium" and probably get away with it if you're a sneaky bastard.

Okay, so I'm not positive on this, but I THINK 3 series don't come with BMW's "Premium sound system"... too small for all the speakers and sub's and whatnot. You would probably know if you had something special with it's sound. Any extra bells and whistles that you know of?

I've heard something about infinity's wiring being kinda screwy... I'm sure having to adapt BMW's wiring doesn't help with that. Installing a CD changer in mine wasn't exactly like my old jetta. :wink

I believe that the so called premium sound is actually the Harman Kardon system in the 3 series. Which is the 10 speakers system, there should be both a tweeter and a mid in the door with a sub in the kickpanel. WIth two ways in the rear. I am not sure if there is the option for subs in the back or not? Hope that helps!

I assumed based on the fact I have so far found 8 speakers in my cabin (not sure I've found them all yet, I just found the last two recently), and a sound better than the system I had put in my civic, that I must have premium sound. After all, the bass thumps like I have a sub (I had an Xplod in the civic), and I haven't found it yet.

I'm just guessing though.
