Hey, I've heard wonderful things about the HarmonKardon sound system as an option on some of the 3 series. I was wondering if any of you have those, and if so, do you think they are good enough so that you can leave the existing system alone, just swapping out the head unit and putting in a sub or two?

I have heard that having the HK system makes adding a sub and/or a HU.

i got the HK system since it was included in my car. its sounds fine. but i replaced the subs to aftermarket ones. if i had to pay $600(i believe this is how much bmw charges for the HK system upgrade) i wouldnt do it. it just looks cool on the speaker grille covers that says 'harmon kardon' lol

What about in the earlier 3 series? Like the e36 =) I'm just wondering what I will be looking forward to in terms of redoing my sound.

hmm, it cut off the end of my reply.

Having HK makes adding or upgrading harder, in the e36 as well. If you want factory premuim and dont want to change it, then HK is good. If you have the slightest inclination to get someinth aftermarket, go with the regualr system.

Cool, that makes me feel better about the fact that a 328is with the HK system isn't an easy thing to find.

I love my 02 325ci but that HK system is garbage- almost evryone I know who has one- the speakers are blown- I would not recommend spending the money if U are buying new & are an audiophile, However, it does look cool on the speaker grilles!

Tru, I have the HK and don't like it. Can't turn it up loud or it will sound distorted. I'm going aftermarket...
