High Pitched Hum

I just got a new system installled (HU, 5.35" Components, Amp, Sub). When I turn the HU off or turn the volume all the way down, I can hear a high pitched hum coming the area of my right door tweeter (MB Quart). The hum goes in unison with the accelerator. This hum does not happen if I am not accelerating or idling. Any ideas?

The best thing is to find a better ground for the HU if everything is running off it but the sub. If everything is running off an external amp, ground it to the negative battery terminal. That will pretty much eliminate any ground faults on that end. If it still does it, then you'll need to reroute your RCAs, becuase they are picking up interferance. Its odd that it happens when off though.

The HU powers the rear speakers, and the external amp powers the componenets up front and the sub. I am having my installer look at it. We'll see...

if you paid to have it installed, bring it back and make them fix it. RPM noise is almost always caused by ground loops, or RCA cables being run along side power wires.

Your installer should fix it. I did my own install and took the lazy approach of buying a power line filter from Navone Engineering--I also tried grounding directly to the battery but that didn't work.

I'm taking high-level outs from the stock head, so I figure that has something to do with it.
