they should be ok. it is exposing more than 60% of the 6x9's surface area, which is about all you need to get the proper sound out of any speaker.

yes i took out my 6x9 HK and put in diamond audio S600S, they fit with very little jerryrigging. Diamond sounds great!!!

Couldnt find a Camera to use
Anyway worked like a treat, install took less than 5 min.
Problem Occured "Had to create my own wiring for the speakers "as the rear has its own clip setup Tooo easy"
No screws supplied, used some size 12 to hold the adapter in
Ill try and get some pictures

look good, but IF your going to get subs then there is no point in getting 6x9s for the back

the 6x9's will far outperform the 4"ers he just replaced, whether or not the subs will be used. Much more midbass/midrange from the larger speaker.
