Found A Good Deal On Some Infiniti Kappas

Found an alright deal at Ultimate Electronics going out of business sale on some Infiniti Kappas and Reference. If i replace my speakers will the stockamp with a Clarion head Unit be enough to power them? The store said it was 5.25 in front and back is this true? Should I just replace the fronts or just the backs?

If they are a really good deal, go ahead and get both front and rear. They will run fine of of the amp/hu you have. The nice thing about the Kappas is that you can run them off the hu power and then later on put a 100 x 4 amp on them. THAT'S when they stand up and sing, and show you why you spent the money on the better speakers. They should be 5.25" in the front and rear. If you have to choose between front or rear do the front ones first as they are closer to your ears and most of the sound you want coming from the front anyways.

The only downfall to replacing one pair, is that the factories are more efficient and will play louder (not cleaner, just louder) than the Infinity's. So you will have to fade towards the front a little until you replace the other pair. The aftermarkets will most definately benefit from the 100x4 amp than what the factories ever could (you cant go full tilt on the factories with that much power).

I've got them front and rear, and I have absolutely NO regrets on my purchase. They play the hard stuff (good traveling-to-work-and-wake-your-arse-up-at-4:30-in-the-morning-music), the old school stuff (for the drive home), and the more mellow stuff (weekend cruising).

Well they only had one pair left new in the box and one that is a demo unit. I don't want the demo unit so I am going to look at the new ones. Hopefully they will still be there. Thanks for the response da bull.

No problem.

We sold demo units out of the display a lot. If it is from a reputable shop, and they give you a full warranty (kappas have 2 yr from the factory), I would still think about purchasing them.

If you do get both pair, look at them very carefully, especially the smoothness of the tweeter. The material the tweeters are made from will look a little bit wavy compared to the new ones if they have been played hard for a long period of time.

The nice thing about being in a shop (instead of a chain store, i.e. best buy/circuit city) is, IF they were played loud usually there is a qualified salesperson to tell the customer when he/she is reaching the point of distortion and will turn it down. The speakers are ok with that, for a short period of time, because they havent got a chance to heat up. Heat is the enemy of speakers and by them sitting (usually not playing) in a display for 8-10 hours a day, no damage is done. It's the Friday night cruising at loud volumes for 4-6 hours and you get out of your car with your ears ringing, that damage to the speakers.
