In the next week i am either going to buy the 8500x50 or the solo s2. I know the solo s2 is corldess. but which one would be best? Is there a difference in performance due to no cord??

Oh and how long do the batteries last in the s2, anyone know?

Escort makes the best detectors out there. V1's are great, but are overpriced.

The S2 is pretty good with batteries. You can set it to turn itself off to conserve battery life, and a change every few months will keep you up and going, depending on the amount of time you spend in your car. It does have a three bar battery warning system, so you know when to change them, regardless of time.

thanks for the quick replies but is there any big difference in performance between the 8500 x50 and the s2. I know the big difference is cordless but does this effect the performance.

The Escort 8500 X50 preforms better than the Solo S2. GET THE 8500 X50 <-- This is quoted from 'Radar Roy' himself.

" Even with the top cordless radar detectors such as the Solo 2 or the Silver Bullets, you will be giving up in some cases over 20% in range, and you will not be able to detect the newer POP mode radar guns from MPH Industries. "

Also, any Cobra model can be detected by the Spectre RDD's. ( For those of you that dont know what RDD is.... it is a Radar Detector Dectecor that the police use to Detect your radar at a higher frequency. )

I would suggest the WHISTLER Pro 73 or Pro 58 for buyers that are on a bugget. They have outstanding POP detection for a great price. Differences between the two are the 73 has Voice Alert and High Intense Blue Text. And I believe that the 73 has better range. 73 goes for $150 and the 58 goes for about $100. The Bel RX55 Pro is also a good radar for under $300, it goes for roughly $230, but has many false alerts.

Problem with the V1 is that all the previous version do NOT detect POP. Currently the V1 (v1.8) does.
