Engine Fail Safe Light came on?? Please help...

Engine Fail Safe Light came on after accidently down shifting from third to second gear, the car started to idle/ run rough. Pulled over to side of the road turned off the car and waited a couple of minutes, restarted the car and the check engine light is now on?? it also is running sluggish?

What did I do to it ?? Please help, I am taking it to the dealer and would like to have knowledge before I turn it over to them....

What box/engine? Auto shift management prevents illegal shifting to protect the engine and tranny...
Manual is not so forgiving if you dump the engine into the red-line !!

The engine check light is on??? I think you can test the engine first if there have fault code, try to read and clear the code. would tell what your car model and which year. I can recommend you some obd2 code readers, they are cheap and easy to operate.
