I just sold off my old stereo, 2 12" Alpine R Type subs, and have decided one sub is more than enough. Alpine and Eclipse stand out as two of the better sub makes-with the exception of the ones that would force me to sell my BMW to afford. Alpine's newest sub, the X Type is pretty impressive.
Specs For Alpine X Type

Hidden Screw Gasket
Integrated Spider Landing and Heat Transfer Plate
Massive Triple Stacked Strontium Magnets
Multi-Stage Ventilation System (Dual Flare Pole, Spider Plateau & Frame Leg Venting, Cone/VC Junction Venting
One-Sided Terminal Layout

Most of that is non-important and way over most peoples heads, but for you who know subs hopefully you can decide which is better based on the info.
The other sub is Eclipse's Titanium Series
Polyether Surround
Solid Titanium Cone
Dual Mirror-Image Spiders
Aluminum Voice Coil Former
"Bottomless" Design
Aero-Vented Pole Piece
Cast Aluminum Frame
Triple-Stacked Magnet
Small Sealed-Box Enclosure
Continuous Power Handling: 750W
Music Power Handling: 1,500W
Dual Voice Coil

Not quite as much info as the Alpine but that's all Eclipse's website has. If anyone has any experience with either sub or has researched/read anythin about either i would much appreciate the info. Thanks-Wade

Yes one sub is plenty for most people, I still don't understand why so many people insist on buying two.

Your two choices listed are pretty but neither company are known for their subs. Either would be fine as they are reputable manufacturers, but I would recomend Kicker (SPL) or Infinity(SQ) as they are known for making great subs.
