E46 Business RDS Headunit Q.

Could anybody tell me if the standard BMW Business RDS radio has a built in amp or does it have a seperate one elsewhere in the car ?
The reason i'm asking is i'm planning to install a aftermarket headunit and wondered if the speakers connect straight to the headunit . My car has the standard speaker set up, not Harmon Kardon.

Your radio has its amp built in. The HK system has a separate amp from what I've read.

Consider adding an Infinity Basslink in the trunk if you are keeping the stock speakers, but would like to kick up the bass a bit.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure all oem HU's are deadheads. I have a non HK system in my e36 3er and my old 5er didnn't have the HK system either, yet both oem HU's had seperate amps. Pretty sure yours would too.

As far as leads, an oem or aftermarket deck can safely deliver a decent signal to the remote amplifier using it's amplified speaker leads.

I'll defer to jllphan who knows a lot more than me. I was going on the assumption that my non-HK Business Radio has to have some kind of internal amplification to drive the speakers, and that there wasn't a separate amp somewhere else in my car.
