E36 speaker upgrade question

I want to upgrade the door and floor speakers in my '94 318is. The door speaker grills are about 2-2.5 inches in diameter. I want to get a pair of 5 1/4 component speakers (which supposedly fit my car) that have 1" tweeters--how do I install these? Aren't they too small? I've heard the Infinity Reference components fits like a glove. Is this true?

The tweeters in the door require you to remove the door panel. This is done by prying off the little clips behind the hand-grab thing (not the handle) and sliding off the trim around then handle. Behind the clips are torx screws. Unscrew those, then us a screwdriver, starting at the bottom, and use it pry the door panel loose. Plastic clips are all that hold it in place.
