I bought my 95 316i about 2 months ago. When I bought it it had an aftermarket tape deck that worked when it wanted to. I went to a local wrecking yard and bought a philips tape deck that came out of an opel that plugged right into the wiring kit and worked fine. About a month ago I was driving and it stopped working. I pulled it out when I got home and it was super hot so I took it out of the car and let it cool off and tried it the next day and it was working fine until it over heated again (I'm assuming thats the problem with it).
Fast forward to today I bought a cheap Alpine HU that plugs in to the same wiring kit that the other two tape decks plugged into and I have no sound! It powers up and everything just no sound. I've done countless searches and tried connecting the blue/white wire from the deck to the blue wire on the harness which didn't work. Next I read that the white wire on the original BMW harness is the wire that activates the factory amp so I spliced the blue/white wire from the deck to the white wire and that didn't work. I even tried running a wire directly from the battery to the white wire and I still have no sound

I can still plug in the old tape deck I have and it works fine until it overheats.
Anyone know of anything else I can try? I checked all the fuses they're all good. It's also a European-spec 316i if that makes any difference.
