E36 Convertible sound questions

So, Just bought my first BMW, a 95 325I Convertible. As it is a used car the stock speakers in the back are blown and cannot handle a lot of sound as well as the tweeters in the front really do not carry a lot of sound. I would like to upgrade to either bigger or same size with better audio quality. I also have dual 12" subs from my last car in a custom box, but the box is far too big to squeeze in the trunk.
So I was wondering:
What after market speakers and deck are great to replace these?
Can I go with a bigger size speaker or would there be cutting involved?
What size amp would I need to do this upgrade?
With such a small trunk any suggestions on subs and amps?
And with such a small trunk is there any suggestion on how to mount subs?

any information would be greatly appreciated.
