E34 Sub placement

Hiya! im in a stage of conflict. I was wondering which creates a better sound- facing the sub into the cutout and cabin, or turning it away and letting it rebound against the trunk. The audio shop I went to told me id get a better sound if I turned it towards the trunk. I need good input, preferably someone who knows what they're talking about. Thanks a lot?

Subs always sound better facing the trunk. Removing the panel for the ski hole and firing the sub through there would provide you with cleaner sound, however it will not have the depth, punch or volume that it would have the other way. The sub needs to be facing the trunk to give the proper sound. Remove that peice of metal still, but keep the sub firing toward the tail lights. Its your best bet. I have a LOT of experience in car audio.

forgot to add, if you go with a ported enclosure, dont face the port out of the ski hole either, it will be out of phase and some sound waves will cancel eachother resulting in less bass.
