I'll probably do it sometime this week or next weekend, I called a few places, and it doesn't seem like it's gonna cost much

It just reflects the sound back towards the center of the car-making the sound better and preventing SOME of the rattle. I dynomated my entire trunk and i still have some minor rattling, it did help alot tho. Well worth the money. All the places I looked at cost a ton for the real Dynamat. Look for the generic stuff that's the exact same and half the price if moneys an issue-they all do the same thing. Just make sure u the the "Extreme" kit, it's sticky and holds to surfaces. Good luck
As quiet as our cars are anyways, the Dynamat (and yes, buy the cheaper brands i.e. Stinger makes a nice one) will block out more road noise with the stereo off (if turning the stereo off is an option). When installed correctly your car will have less noise coming from the outside world, hence making your stereo perform better, by not having to overcome that noise.

The two main reaons I want to do this is to reduce the rattle from trunk, and to get more out of my soundd system...

Dynamat is on the car, it sounds a lot better in the inside and about 50% of the rear rattle is gone...

First off I used Dynamat in my 330xi and all my past BMW's. It made a awesome difference in road noise. I also noticed and increase in the volume in my stereo. I was able to hear the music better at half the volume level. Now I can not imagine a product eliminating 100% off all noise from driving, but I do know that the Dynamat eliminated almost all the noise I had before I started.
Now I did spend more for the Dynamat but come on, I'm driving a BMW and I want the best. Plus I did some research and Dynamat is the original product for sound damping and has 3x the damping efficiency than all the generic products. So why not buy the best.
I have also heard that most of the generic mats leave bad odors or even ruined the interiors.
