I am going with the Alpine 9835 with either the Infinity 5 1/4 Components or MB Quart 5 1/4 components. This is an expensive Alpine unit. Will I be missing out if I do not get an amp to power the component speakers?

you wont if you buy the reference line. If you buy the Kappa or Kappa perfect then you'd want an amp.

5.25" components are typically rated for about 130 watts. I'd look for 80-100 watts/channel since that seems to be the sweet spot for amplifier pricing.
