Deep speakers

Looking at doing Alpine Type-X components. SOOOO deep.

Has nyone else done any modification to their e46 coupe to make a deeper speaker fit? Cutting the inside of the door is not going to work because the window trac is right behind where the speaker goes. Has anyone modified the door panel in any way to get an extra .5" or so?

you may have to look at relocating them to the kick panel and use q-form pods down there. I don't even know if they make them for the e46 though.

You are probably out of luck. What you could do is replace the existing grills with the Alpine ones and fit them from the front of the door panel. This would allow you to use a spacer if required, but be warned, the E46 front speakers give NO bass so don't be disappointed.

Thanks for the replies guys. I work at an audio store, and I'm very confident in my installer (he's won plenty of awards.) It looked to us like we're going to have to cut the grill, but we're gonna try and prevent that if possible.

Anyways, I'm not worried about bass from those speakers. I have an RTA meter, so we shold be able to cross them over with the tweets and sub to give pretty darn good sound.

I'll let ya know how things turn out, with pictures if relevant.
