I had an idea. My headunit has 3 modes, radio, cd, and aux (for cd changers and such).

I have an adapter to go from the headphone jack, to red and white rca...

Without taking my headunit out, does anyone know what type of connection the back of my e36 (1997) stock alpine headunit uses for aux? Is it rca?

What I'm thinking is running an rca cable adapted to my ipod from my glovebox to the back of the head unit and plugging into the aux input, then splicing the power connector on the ipod cable and hard wiring it on a switch power cable in the car. That way my ipod would be on and charging whenever the car is on, and off when the car is off... and the aux of my headunit would play the ipod's output.

The ipod has a mounting kit for the e46, but not e36. Lame. :P

Does that seem possible? I don't see why not...

huh? you change HUs? cuz yours isnt stock.

The stock has no inputs.

the problem I have heard is with these you stil have to control the music with the ipod, and the HU can't do it.

I really dislike the FM transmitters. They sound tinny and when traveling I constantly have to reprogram which station it uses due to real radio stations stomping on it.

I have the ICELink and love it.

Can get one here: http://www.densionusa.com

wow, that icelink looks really good, but one question, how do you connect it to your head unit and where does the wire come out, the stock cd changer is in the trunk right?

I have a Sony CDX-F5000 aftermarket deck installed. It has cd changer controls ... but if I were to get the ICELINK where would it plug into?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really "need" my ipod in my car.
