Couple of Quick Questions

I purchased a 1998 BMW 328i back in December. I'm new to BMW's and cars in general so i just have a few quick questions ...

1.) The light on my radio started dimming and then finally went out. All the other lights on the dashboard are fine except for the radio. Anyone know how to get it lit up again? It's impossible to see the stations.

2.) Can I put a Sony or Pioneer etc. cd-changer in the trunk of my car and still be able to control it from the dashboard. Without removing anything, like the radio from the dashboard? Will the original radio control the changer?

The lights cannot be replaced without entirely taking the HU apart.

Only factory changers can be controlled by the factory HU.

My suggestion is to scrap the factory HU and buy an mp3 HU. Its like having the volume of a changer on one disk.

Ah, so you can install non-factory head units into a bmw? I was told not to. )
