component speaker vs 5.25

looking to upgrade the audio in my 95 325 conv. wondering whether anyone had any advice on whether to go for a system or just the 5.25 in the kicker panel-
my main complaint was a lack of bass but i also wanted a lil more power for when i put the top down- getting a new HU as well- considered a sub maybe a tube? but it seems like replacing the speakers and HU will get done now and go from there

i am in particular looking at the Alpine Type-X SPX-137A

also i was wondering where i could find what the stock amp produces?

HU may not help much unless you bypass or otherwise replace the stock amp that is there.

Speakers may help some but a tube or a sub or changing the rear speaker to something like a 6x9 may help more with the bass.

but then again I could be wrong. See what the pres has to say.

replace ur factory amp.. it will make a world of difference.. then replace ur kick panels.. see how it sounds.. should sound much much better

I just installed an infinity basslink along with a new amp to replace my factory one... and its all teh bass and clarity i need

yeah, just put a sub in - let the sub work out the bass and let the speakers take care of the mid's - basically just let each speaker do its job;

especially with a convertible you should go with a component set up. Placing the tweeters up on the dash or mirror will do wonders for the highs. Dont worry about the rears, just replace the fronts and add a tube or small sub more better bass.

replace ur stock amp... bmw factory amps blow

u will see a major diff in ur factory speakers once the stock amp is replaced.

As to changing the amp. Can it be done by simply swaping out the old with a new and using the highlevel ins on the new amp and just using the existing wiring?

good deal- i didnt even know it had an amp in it- i was originally thinking of bypasing it with the new hu and putting in a component systyem up front and small sub in back which seems to be confirmed by you all- where is the amp running from now?

most e36s its in the trunk on the drivers side behind the trim pannel.

I think it may be some place else in convertables.... but not sure...
