Hey does anyone know FOR SURE if stock BMW cd players (CD43) can play burned cds from a computer. LIke downloaded songs from kazza or something. Would it be able to play them, cause Im thinging of getting the CD43 from someone.

I dont really like the look of HU on BMWs since they stick out to much.

I just bought a '95 318i with the BMW 6 disk changer in the trunk and it will not play burned CD's. I am going to try the shiny-er "music CD" type of disk but as it stands, it would not play any of my burned Imation Disks that are known-good in newer players.

Burned CD's will work if you burn the CD's at the slowest burn speed on your computer(4x) burn speed works for me just take's sometime.I use data CD's some of my CD's I had to burn at (2x) burn speed.Data CD's are so cheap so you can experiment to find the right combinations.

1998 323is with stock changer.
I burn audio cd's at 48x (cd's max speed, burner can do 52) and that's all the changer ever sees. I have used about 6 different brands in the player with zero problems. You CANNOT burn mp3's onto the cd in data mode, you must burn the cd as a standard audio cd (which decompresses the mp3) and you can only fit 80 minutes of audio onto it.
Most new aftermarket cd changers can play MP3's in data mode, (you can store a upwards of 5+ hours of music on cd's that way) but to use those you usually need an aftermarket head unit, and if you do that, you might as well replace the stock amp in the back or bypass it (IGCH!)

Pirate Nero Burning rom and burn audio cd's that way, I love that program. It's got an easy mode, and an advanced moe where you can change just about anything.

since you aksed outside of his sale thread, I cannot help but tell you not to buy it. I understand your dislike of non OEM look, and I sharfe it with you. But $375 for a shiity HU like that is absurd.

Older Blaupunkt 7 series models and well as current Nakimichi HUs look exactly like factory units and perform much better.

Also moving to audio.
