CD changer says NO DISC - BMW Forum

I recently bought a 2001 300Ci. It has a 6 CD changer. It was playing CDs ok. Since yesterday, though, it started saying NO DISC. I took out the CDs and replaced it but it would not read CDs anymore. Is the changer busted?

Is there a way to clean the CD changer, in case there is dust on the lens.

any cd lens cleaner should work.

if you dare. take it out take it apart and clean it up real good and put it back in.

if you don't dare. take it to the dealer or start checking ebay.

changers are easy to take apart. I had to once when an idiot guy I know loaded 7 CDs into a changer for 6.

Sounds a bit draconian...but bang your fist on the top of the CD changer a few times. I've done this before and it permanently fixed a "CD error" problem that I had. Read about it somewhere on line...it really works!

I've done fixed a lot of stuff bia bangin on it reel hard like.

there are ususaly a couple screws holding it on from the front that let you slide it out... at least it was that way in my e36

Before taking the changer out and apart, have you disconnected its power source and plugged it back in? That forces it to reset.

No. Where is the power source? Do i have to take out the lining in the trunk to access the power source?
BTW, bangin it didn't work.

you don't have to take it out out... just pull on it some and get it out of the way...

sometimes bangin' on it doesnt work but oyu would be suprised.

There should be two wires attached to it. One is the singal cable and the other should be the power wire. Follow it along and you'll see a plug connection. Disconnect and reconnect and it should reset.

It still says NO DISC. I don't know if it is cheaper to buy an equivalent aftermarket or get the OEM one repaired by the dealer.

Try the dealer.... Or there are converts that will let you alpine, sony, pioneer changers on your car if you do chose to go with one of those. The advantage is you can got MP3 at that point if you want.

Before spending the money to have your changer repaired or replaced, why not try one last thing that will cost about $30...replace the cd magazine. These sometimes fail...maybe some little gizmo brok off that tells the unit that you've got CDs in the thing.
